Priya Sharma

Priya worked as community manager at a small indie studio in Vancouver from 2020 to 2023, which mostly meant reading the same complaints about a beloved platformer every Tuesday and answering them with patience. The studio is still going. She left to freelance and now writes about games full-time, with a small newsletter on the side that has somewhere around 4,000 subscribers, most of whom she suspects only read the parts about mobile.

She tests games on her bus commute, which is a useful constraint. A game that does not handle touch well, or that needs five minutes of tutorial before letting you play, gets caught quickly. She is the reason we say honest things about mobile UX even on titles that are clearly designed for desktop, and she is also the person on the team most likely to compare a new game to something specific from twenty years ago (Bust-A-Move, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, the original Crossy Road).

Priya carries the bulk of the arcade, sports, and adventure reviews and writes most of our category-page editorials. Her blog work leans toward design and the slow history of how browser-game conventions actually got established, which is a topic she would happily talk about for an hour at the bus stop.
