Editor review

Hero Saga is a multi-act fantasy RPG. Recruit a party. Complete quests across a small open world. Save the kingdom from corruption. The format is the small-team-RPG template (Final Fantasy 1 or Dragon Quest 1 being the canonical ancestors) compressed into browser scope.

The party-recruitment is the design's interesting layer. You start alone and recruit up to three companions across the campaign. Each companion has a class (warrior, mage, healer, rogue) and a personal questline that unlocks them. Choosing which companions to recruit affects available abilities and story branches.

Combat is turn-based with positioning. Each character occupies a grid position. Some abilities have range or area-of-effect. Smart positioning is the central tactical skill. The combat is honest tactical fare without being innovative. The party-composition decisions you made earlier matter in fights you encounter later.

The "small open world" is small but well-designed. Maybe a dozen locations connected by an overworld map. Each location has a quest or two and some side content. The whole campaign runs about eight to ten hours, which is substantive for a free browser RPG.

Four stars. Solid small-team RPG with thoughtful party-composition mechanics. Worth the eight hours if you have affection for the genre. Half-star reservation is the combat depth, which is fine but unremarkable. Tactics fans will want more.
