Time Traveler is puzzle-adventure with time-travel mechanics. Visit past and future versions of locations to solve cross-time puzzles. The format is rare and Time Traveler does it surprisingly well, with puzzle design that respects the player's intelligence.
The time-travel mechanic is the design's whole pitch and it delivers. Each location exists in three states: past (the original site, intact), present (the site weathered and altered), and future (the site overgrown or restored differently). Actions you take in the past affect the present and future. Actions in the present can change the future. Some puzzles require coordinating actions across all three time periods.
Look, the cross-time puzzle structure is the kind of design that requires careful planning to execute. The developer here clearly planned it. There are no dead-ends. There are no puzzles that only resolve through arbitrary leap-of-logic. Every puzzle has a discoverable solution that follows from the time-travel rules the game establishes.
I spent maybe five hours on the campaign and got stuck only twice for longer than fifteen minutes. Both times I'd missed an observation in one time period that became relevant in another. The "go back and look again" loop is satisfying when it works the way Time Traveler designs it.
Four-and-a-half stars. Among the better adventure puzzles I've reviewed. Half-star reservation is the visual presentation, which is fine but doesn't dramatically distinguish the three time periods. More visual contrast between past/present/future would strengthen the design.
