How to play

Up arrow to maintain run posture; left and right to lean for steering; down arrow to tuck deeper for reduced drag. Cornering requires anticipation — brake-bobsled inputs do not exist; the only control is steering through the corner-banking.

Game features

  • Six winter-sport ice tracks
  • Bobsled and skeleton mode options
  • Tuck mechanic affects top speed
  • Wall-rebound physics with time penalties
  • Three race variants per track: sprint, full, championship
  • Time-trial leaderboards

Editor review

Sled Race is bobsled and skeleton-style racing. Lean to steer. Tuck for speed. Beat timed sections of an ice run. The genre is narrow and Sled Race makes it narrower by reducing the steering input to roughly two options (left lean or right lean) plus one tuck button.

Right, the simplification kills the game. Real bobsled racing is about anticipation and weight management across multiple curves stacked together. Sled Race's two-direction steering can't represent that level of decision-making. You lean left or right at each curve and that's it.

The track design tries to compensate with timed-section gates that you have to pass through smoothly. But the gates are placed at fairly obvious spots in the curve geometry, so passing them comes down to whether you started leaning at the right moment, not whether you understood the curve.

What's there is functional but shallow. Twelve courses. Three sled types with slightly different handling. Multiplayer that doesn't fill lobbies. Sound effects that get repetitive within five minutes.

Two-and-a-half stars. The Winter Olympics sled-racing fantasy is appealing and underused. This game doesn't realise it. The mechanical simplification reduces what could have been a tight technique-driven game into a press-button-when-curve game.
