Velocity Rally

Use arrow keys or WASD to drive: up to accelerate, down to brake or reverse, left and right to steer. Handbrake is space — useful for tight corners. Each race is three laps; finish top-three to advance in career mode; first place earns bonus unlock points.

Velocity Rally is a competent top-down arcade racer with eight tracks and weather effects. I went in expecting another generic racing game in a tab and was actually surprised by the handling. The car has weight. Brake into a corner and the back tries to come around. Power out of an apex too early and you understeer into the gravel. That kind of physics-respecting handling is rare in browser racers.

Right, the eight tracks are well-designed. Each has a memorable feature: hairpin sequence on track 3, the wet section on track 5 that turns hostile in rain, the high-speed sweeping curve on track 7 that you can take flat in a fast car but only with commitment, and the elevation change on track 8 that compresses your suspension at high speed. Weather modifier shows up as rain, fog, dust, or snow based on the location and time of year, and it actually changes how you drive.

The AI opponents are decent. They don't rubber-band obviously, which is the most common sin in this genre. They make occasional mistakes you can punish. I won my first race by half a second over a competent AI.

Where it loses a half-star for me is the controls feel. Keyboard works fine but the analog-axis sensitivity is too coarse, you're either fully turning or not. Gamepad helps a lot if you have one. Four stars. Strong handling model, light on content, recommended.
