Editor review

Kart Battle is a Mario Kart in a browser tab. Power-ups include blue shells, banana peels, the speed boost item that's everywhere in this genre, and a mystery-box that drops something random when you grab it. Sixteen tracks. AI opponents. Driving feels acceptable. Item physics feels acceptable. The genre's signature rubber-banding is here but not aggressive.

Right, the honest comparison is to Mario Kart and Kart Battle isn't that. Track design is plain. Tracks don't have the cohesive theming a Nintendo kart game gets. Item balance is slightly off, the blue-shell-equivalent fires too often in late laps, and the speed-boost-equivalent is too generous for an item that can be triggered. AI difficulty is also weirdly bimodal: easy is way too easy, hard is way too hard, and there's no medium that sits where you want.

But here's the thing. For a free kart racer that plays in a browser tab without an account, Kart Battle is solid. Four players locally on the same keyboard works. AI fills out the lobby. Tracks are different enough from each other to keep you interested for an hour or two.

Four stars. Not Mario Kart. Better than the alternatives in a browser context. The kart-game appetite this satisfies is real and there's no other browser kart racer doing it as well.
