Editor review

Skateboard Race is downhill longboard racing. You tuck for speed. Lean into corners. Manage speed wobble at high velocity. The mechanic is simple but the consequence-pressure is high because your top speed grows through the run and the late sections of each course are riding the edge of losing it.

Right, this is one of the better-tuned single-mechanic racing games I've played in browser. The speed wobble is the design's secret weapon. Lean too aggressively at high speed and the board starts oscillating side-to-side. Recover by easing pressure and re-centering. Fail to recover and you eat pavement. The wobble dynamics are tuned exactly right: bad enough to be threatening but recoverable if you respond fast.

The eight downhill courses progress from easy mountain roads to actually terrifying cliffside switchbacks. Each course has hard sections where the optimal line is clearly visible and you have to commit. Brake too much and you lose time. Don't brake enough and you fly off. The risk-reward is constant and the game makes you make the decision over and over.

I cleared the hardest course (course 8, the cliffside switchbacks) on attempt fourteen. Felt incredible. The course-clear sequence shows your line as a heat-map of your speeds, which is a thoughtful detail. You can see where you were too cautious and where you were lucky.

Four-and-a-half stars. Strong single-mechanic racing with a real skill ceiling. Half-star reservation is just that the mechanic doesn't have anywhere to expand to. Eight courses is the game and there's no obvious way to extend it. Worth every minute of the four-hour campaign anyway.
