Editor review
Tank Wars IO is top-down multiplayer tank arena. Level up via kills, choose upgrade paths into specialised tank classes. The Diep.io lineage (2016, the canonical entry in this sub-genre) is the obvious comparison and Tank Wars IO is doing a respectable version of that template.
Class-progression is the design's central thing. Starting tanks are generic, but each level-up offers stat choices and class-specialisation upgrades. By tank level 10 you've committed to a specific build: sniper (long-range, low rate-of-fire), machine-gunner (sustained DPS), twin-cannon (anti-positional spread), assault (high mobility), and a handful of other branches. Different builds work in different positions and against different opponent types.
Honestly, what I appreciate is the build-counterplay system. No single build is dominant. Snipers are good against close-quarters builds in open terrain but lose to machine-gunners in cluttered terrain. Machine-gunners lose to twin-cannons at range. Twin-cannons lose to mobility builds in open ground. And mobility builds lose to snipers in open terrain, completing the cycle. The rock-paper-scissors gradient is real and means the match strategy includes thinking about which tank-types your current opponents are running.
The 15-minute match length and the persistent-progression-within-match design give Tank Wars IO a real strategic arc. Early game is about safe levelling. Mid-game is about committing to a build and asserting positional control. Late game is about either dominating or deliberately picking off opponents while staying alive. Late-late game is two or three players each holding territory and waiting for someone to blink.
Four stars. Strong Diep.io lineage entry with thoughtful build-counterplay. Half-star reservation is the visual presentation, which is sterile compared to other .io games on this site. The mechanics are good enough to carry it but the atmosphere is thin.
