Editor review
Tank Hunt IO is multiplayer tank arena with destructible terrain. Carve cover. Ambush from forests. Become the last tank standing. The destructible-terrain mechanic is the design's distinguishing thing and separates it from the more conventional Tank Wars IO (also on this site).
Honestly, destructible terrain is one of those features that's hard to do well in multiplayer because the terrain state has to stay synchronised across all clients without lag. Tank Hunt IO mostly handles this. There's occasional desync where you see terrain damage that doesn't match what the server records, but it's rare enough not to break the game.
The strategic layer added by destructible terrain is real. You can shoot through cover to expose entrenched opponents. You can carve escape routes through walls. You can collapse cover above an opponent. The map state changes constantly during a match in ways that reward tactical thinking.
Where it falls short is the same place most destructible-terrain games fall: the late-game collapse. By minute 15 the map is mostly rubble. Tactical cover decisions stop mattering because there's no cover left. The interesting middle phase of matches is much better than the open-arena late-game.
Three-and-a-half stars. Strong destructible-terrain implementation with good middle-game strategy. Half-star reservation is the late-game collapse into open-arena play, which feels like a different game from the early-and-middle phases.
