Editor review
Submarine Strike is side-view submarine combat. Stalk surface vessels with torpedoes. Manage oxygen and depth-charge risk. The submarine sim is a niche genre and Submarine Strike does a compressed browser version of it.
Right, the depth-management is the design's interesting layer. Stay shallow and you can fire torpedoes accurately but expose yourself to depth charges from surface ships. Go deep and you're safe from depth charges but your sonar accuracy drops and oxygen becomes a real concern. The strategic decision is constant: surface for the kill or stay deep for safety.
The torpedo physics is the bit I respect. Torpedoes take time to traverse to the target. Surface ships move during that time. You have to lead. Aiming requires reading the ship's heading and speed, then calculating where the ship will be when your torpedo arrives. The lead-the-target compensation is real and the genre's defining skill.
What's underdone is the variety. Twenty missions, all variations of stalk-and-fire. Some are convoy hunts. Some are single-ship stalking. The mission-design doesn't really push past the basic loop.
Three stars. Solid submarine combat with thoughtful physics. The mission design limits the longevity. Worth playing the first hour, less interesting in the second.
