Helicopter Strike

WASD or arrow keys to move; mouse to aim; left-click to fire the primary chain gun; right-click for rockets; middle-click or Q for missiles. The helicopter has limited ammunition for rockets and missiles but unlimited chain gun rounds. Each mission has specific objectives ranging from area clearing to escort and rescue.

Helicopter Strike is top-down helicopter combat. Multiple weapon systems. Hostage rescue missions. Progressive equipment unlocks. The genre's roots are in the Apocalypse Now-era arcade titles (Choplifter, 1982, and the Strike series of the 1990s) and Helicopter Strike honours that lineage hard.

Right, the helicopter handling is the central thing and it's tight. The chopper has weight. Banking requires throttle modulation to maintain altitude. Hovering precisely over a hostage pickup requires constant micro-adjustments. The physics aren't simulator-accurate but they're more responsive and weighty than most browser games attempt.

What sets Helicopter Strike apart is the mission structure. Each of the 25 missions has primary objectives (destroy target, rescue hostages, defend convoy) and optional objectives (no civilian casualties, time under target, specific weapon used). Optional objectives feed into a star-rating system, and chasing three-star clears requires real route planning and patience.

I spent maybe four hours on the campaign and got three stars on most missions. The hostage-rescue ones are my favourites: you hover, you can take fire while landing, the rescue mechanic requires holding position for several seconds while ground units try to shoot you out of the sky. Genuine tension.

Four-and-a-half stars. Strong combat-helicopter game with thoughtful mission design. Half-star reservation is the multiplayer mode that's dead most of the time, which is the standard browser-multiplayer-game observation.
