Editor review

Galactic Patrol is top-down free-roaming space shooter. Patrol sectors. Eliminate hostile fleets. Upgrade your ship through mission rewards. The genre is the Asteroids-meets-Elite tradition and Galactic Patrol does a compressed version of that.

Right, the free-roaming sector design is the central thing. Each sector has objectives (eliminate fleet, escort transport, recover cargo) and reward thresholds. Completing objectives unlocks adjacent sectors. The map opens up as you progress, with harder sectors gating better rewards.

What I like is the ship-progression decisions. Earned credits can be spent on weapon upgrades (turrets, missiles, lasers, drones), engine upgrades (speed, agility), and shield upgrades. The build choices materially affect playstyle. A drone-heavy build plays differently from a missile-heavy build.

Where it falls short is the combat depth. The enemy AI is workmanlike but predictable. By mid-game I'd seen every enemy behaviour pattern and engagements became formulaic. The strategy is in the build choices, not the moment-to-moment combat.

Three-and-a-half stars. Solid space shooter with light strategic depth. Worth four to six hours of play before the formula wears thin.
