Dragon Shooter is mounted dragon shooter. Fly through medieval skies. Shoot fire breath at enemy formations. Dodge crossbow bolts from below. The concept is fun. The execution is decent.
Right, what works is the vertical positioning. Most side-scrolling shooters lock you to a horizontal plane. Dragon Shooter has you flying with both horizontal and vertical movement, plus the dragon can dive to dodge low-fire or climb to avoid ground attacks. The 3D movement freedom is the design's strongest call.
The fire-breath mechanic is the secondary thing. You can chain a continuous fire stream that builds intensity the longer you hold it, but holding too long overheats the dragon and forces a cooldown. Tap for short bursts. Hold for sustained DPS. Manage the heat. Same kind of heat-management as Mech Warrior Mini on this site, applied to fire instead of weapons.
What's mid is the level variety. Six maps. Each has slightly different terrain and enemy types but the encounter design is similar across them. Forest map has crossbow enemies in trees. Mountain map has crossbow enemies on cliffs. The variation is cosmetic more than mechanical.
Three-and-a-half stars. Fun dragon-shooter with good movement and decent combat. Worth a play if the dragon-mount fantasy appeals. Limited longevity past the first hour.
