Editor review
Cyber Defense is tower-defence with shooter mechanics in a stylised cyberspace. Defend a network node from incoming malware packets. The premise is interesting. The execution is not.
Right, the central problem is that the visualisation doesn't sell the concept. "Cyberspace" in Cyber Defense is just abstract geometric shapes flowing across the screen. There's no meaningful visual differentiation between threat types. Without that, the strategic layer that good tower-defence depends on (recognising threats and prioritising counters) doesn't work.
The tower variety is also light. Six tower types. Each with a different attack pattern. The pattern differences are real but the visual feedback for which tower is doing what is muddy. You're often watching the screen and unsure what's hitting what.
Where it tries hardest is the shooter integration. You can manually fire on enemies that escape your towers. This adds twitch-skill on top of the tower-placement strategy. In theory this is interesting. In practice the shooter controls are too imprecise to feel rewarding.
Two-and-a-half stars. Good idea, poor execution. The cyberspace theme could support a better game. Skippable in its current form.
