Bee Battle IO is multiplayer team-based bee combat. Collect pollen. Defend the hive. Sting opposing bees in team battles. The team-based format is rare in casual .io games and Bee Battle IO is trying something the genre doesn't usually attempt.
Honestly, the pollen-and-hive economy is interesting in concept. You collect pollen from flowers on the map. You return pollen to your hive to score for your team. Opposing bees can sting you mid-collection, dropping your pollen for them to claim. The risk-reward of collecting versus returning creates real strategic positioning.
Where it falls short is the team coordination problem. Same issue as Defend IO on this site. Casual matchmaking doesn't produce coordinated teams. The format requires four players who communicate and divide labour (collectors, defenders, attackers) and most lobbies have four players who do their own thing without coordination. The team format underdelivers because the casual player pool doesn't play as a team.
The bee-specific theming is light but pleasant. Cosmetic bee-skins. Hive-customisation cosmetics. None of which affects play.
Three stars. Good economy design that the team-coordination problem undermines. Worth a play with friends who'll coordinate. Skippable in casual matchmaking.
