Bear Hunt IO is survival arena where one player is a bear and others are hunters. The bear must escape. Hunters must coordinate to corner it. The asymmetric format is the same family as Hunt IO on this site, and it has the same problem.
Honestly, asymmetric multiplayer balance is hard. Bear Hunt IO has not figured it out. The bear is either too strong (when hunters don't coordinate) or too weak (when hunters do). There's no middle ground where both roles feel competitive simultaneously. Most matches are stomps in one direction.
The bear role is more compelling than the hunter role. As bear you have a clear objective (escape) and clear tools (raw aggression to scatter hunters, terrain knowledge to lose them). As hunter you have an objective that requires coordination you usually don't have.
What partially works is the terrain design. The maps have interesting topography. Hills, forests, rivers, ridges. The bear can use terrain knowledge to ambush or evade. Hunters can use terrain to set traps. The terrain layer adds strategic depth that the role-asymmetry alone doesn't deliver.
Two-and-a-half stars. Same asymmetric-format issues as Hunt IO. Slightly better terrain design. Still not recommendable as a regular play. Skippable.
