Editor review

Air Combat Pro is top-down WWI biplane dogfighting. Bank into turns. Manage altitude. Position for guns-up firing solutions. The genre's a niche one (Crimson Skies in early 2000s being the standout, more recently the Red Baron retrospective scene) and Air Combat Pro does a credible browser-scale version.

Right, the biplane physics is the design's strongest call. Banking changes your altitude. Pulling up loses speed. Climbing too steep stalls the plane. Diving regains speed but gives up positional advantage. The energy-management is the WWI dogfight loop and Air Combat Pro models it well.

The guns-up positioning is the central combat thing. Your guns fire forward only. You can't strafe an enemy, you have to be pointed at them. Combat is about manoeuvring to bring guns to bear before the enemy does the same to you. The classic boom-and-zoom versus turn-fight tactical decision is here.

Sixteen missions across three campaigns. Early missions are basic dogfights against one or two enemies. Mid-campaign introduces ground objectives (strafe trenches, bomb supply depots) and escort missions (protect a slower bomber). Late missions are multi-enemy furballs that require energy-management discipline to survive.

Four stars. Strong biplane dogfight sim for a browser game. Half-star reservation is the visual presentation, which is okay but doesn't convey the era well. The genre rewards period atmosphere and Air Combat Pro is too generic visually.
