Editor review

Sudoku Master is Sudoku. The 1979 Howard Garns invention that the Japanese branded and the world adopted in the early 2000s. Place digits 1 to 9 in a 9x9 grid. Standard rules. Rows contain all nine digits. Columns contain all nine digits. 3x3 boxes contain all nine digits. The puzzle is the constraint.

Look, the test of a good Sudoku implementation is the difficulty grading and the input feel. Sudoku Master nails both. There are five difficulty tiers (easy through evil), and the easy puzzles really are solvable in five to seven minutes while the evil ones take me forty-five to seventy and require techniques like X-Wing and Swordfish. The grading is honest. I've reviewed Sudoku apps that called puzzles "easy" when they were medium, which is irritating in a way only Sudoku players will get.

Input feel: tap a cell, pick a digit, the cell updates. Pencil-marks for candidates are one tap away. Undo is unlimited (which matters because a misclick can ruin a thirty-minute puzzle). The error-highlighting toggle defaults to off, which is the right call for a Sudoku app aimed at serious players.

Four-and-a-half stars. I'd give it five but the daily puzzle isn't actually a fresh puzzle, it's pulled from a hidden pool of about 200 daily seeds that recycle. Knock half a star for the dishonesty.
