Spirit Quest is mystical journey across spirit realms. Commune with spirits. Gather their essences. Restore balance to a broken world. The narrative-adventure format with mystical aesthetic is a category I have a soft spot for and Spirit Quest does it warmly.
The spirit-communion mechanic is the design's interesting layer. Each spirit you meet has a personal puzzle or quest. Solving their puzzle unlocks their essence and their story. Spirits are diverse: a grieving forest spirit who lost their grove, a confused water spirit who can't remember their river, a proud mountain spirit who's lost their summit. The character writing is the warmest thing about the game.
The world structure is the format's strongest element. Five spirit realms connected by a hub. Each realm has its own visual aesthetic (forest, water, mountain, sky, dream). You move between realms freely. Each realm has its spirits to find and its puzzles to solve. The exploration loop is satisfying.
Where I'd push back is the difficulty curve. Spirit puzzles are mostly easy. The campaign is over in about three hours and I never felt challenged. For a category that often rewards deep thought, Spirit Quest is gentle to a fault.
Three-and-a-half stars. Warmly written exploration adventure. Worth playing for the character writing and visual variety. Half-star reservation is the lack of challenge, which limits its appeal to players wanting serious puzzles.
