Minesweeper is the deduction puzzle that came with Windows from 1990 to 2012 and that millions of people learned to play at work pretending to be busy. A grid of cells, some hidden under mines. Click a non-mine cell, it reveals a number indicating how many mines border it. Flag suspected mines. Clear all non-mine cells to win.
Look, Minesweeper is one of my favourite puzzles in any medium, and I can defend that opinion at length. The puzzle is a perfect example of constraint-satisfaction deduction. Each number is a constraint, the constraints interact in complex ways through shared neighbour cells, and skilled play involves chaining deductions across the whole revealed board. NP-completeness has been proved for general Minesweeper (Richard Kaye showed this in 2000), which is part of why I love the game from a math-pedagogy perspective.
Minesweeper Classic here is faithful and well-implemented. Standard difficulties (8x8 with 10 mines, 16x16 with 40 mines, 16x30 with 99 mines, plus the custom difficulty I default to). The "guaranteed-no-guess" option, which I always enable, ensures that every revealed configuration has at least one provably-safe next move (an option that's surprisingly rare in browser Minesweepers). Timer tracks completion. Best-time persists across sessions.
Five stars. This is the rare browser implementation that I'd put alongside the canonical Microsoft version. Truly excellent.
