Editor review
Knight Order is medieval knight-errant adventure. Accept quests from villages. Defeat threats. Earn honour through tournament victories. The format wants to be a small open-world fantasy adventure and the execution falls short.
The quest-acceptance loop is the main design and it doesn't quite work. You ride between villages. You receive quests. The quests are mostly the same template (defeat the bandits, slay the monster, recover the stolen goods). After three or four quests you've seen everything the design has. The variety promised by the open-world structure doesn't materialise.
The combat is workmanlike. Sword swings. Shield blocks. Mounted combat against riders. The mechanics are technically present but the depth isn't there. Most fights resolve in three or four exchanges that don't require much tactical thinking.
The tournament mode is the design's only standout feature. Periodic tournaments in the larger cities pit you against AI knights in jousting and melee combat. Tournament progression unlocks better equipment. The jousting mechanic specifically has more skill expression than the open-world combat, which is the wrong distribution.
Two-and-a-half stars. The knight-errant fantasy is appealing and underused. Knight Order doesn't deliver enough of it. The tournament mode is interesting but doesn't carry the rest of the game. Skippable.
