Cave Stranded is stranded-in-a-cave-system. Find your way out before your headlamp dies. Navigate by limited light. Discover hidden passages. The atmospheric premise sounds promising but the execution is disappointing.
The limited-light mechanic is the design's central thing and the source of most of its problems. Your headlamp has a battery that depletes over time. You can find spare batteries scattered through the caves. The strategic question is whether to explore deeper (find more batteries) or backtrack to the entrance (escape with what you have).
In principle this is good. In practice the cave layout is too convoluted to navigate without the light, and the light range is too short to make navigation efficient. You spend most of the game moving slowly in a small circle of visibility, hoping the cave you're in has a battery somewhere. The pacing kills the tension.
The hidden-passage discoveries are the bright spot. Some walls are false fronts that you can push through. Finding these feels rewarding the few times it happens. There aren't enough hidden passages to carry the game.
Two-and-a-half stars. Good atmospheric premise undermined by pacing problems. The genre can work but Cave Stranded doesn't make it work. Skippable unless you specifically want a limited-light survival experience.
