Editor review
Skiing Champion is downhill alpine skiing. Carve through slalom gates. Manage tuck position for speed against the clock. The genre is a tight one and Skiing Champion does it well, with the carving physics doing the heavy lifting.
The carve-or-skid choice is the central thing. Carving (committing to a clean edge cut through the turn) maintains speed but requires precise line. Skidding (sliding through the turn) loses speed but is forgiving. Skilled play involves carving the open sections and skidding only when necessary to correct a bad line. Skiing Champion models the carve-versus-skid trade-off correctly.
The slalom-gate placement is well-designed. Each course has gates spaced to demand specific line choices: tight back-to-back gates require quick edge transitions, wide-spread gates reward smooth carving. The course variety across the twelve runs is real, with some courses favouring technical precision and others favouring outright commitment.
The tuck-for-speed mechanic is good. Hold the tuck button on straights for aerodynamic speed gain. Stay too long in tuck and you risk being out of position for the next gate. The decision is between maximum speed and turn readiness, which is a real downhill-ski choice.
Four stars. Strong carving physics and good course design. Half-star reservation is the absence of any non-slalom modes. Downhill, super-G, and giant slalom all have their own rhythms and Skiing Champion only models one.
