Editor review

Skateboard Trick is side-view trick-skateboarding through six skate parks. Ollie, kickflip, grind, manual into combo runs. The genre is the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater lineage and Skateboard Trick is doing the side-view 2D version of that tradition.

The trick-system is the central thing. Each trick is a button-modifier combination. Chaining tricks requires landing the previous one smoothly. Combo multiplier grows with chain length. Bailed landing breaks the combo. The system is appropriately demanding, with the harder tricks needing precise input timing.

What works is the skate-park design. Six parks with different layouts: street park with rails and stairs, vert ramp, halfpipe, mini-ramp, plaza, and the final freestyle course that combines elements. Each park has at least one signature line you can string together for a high-multiplier combo if you can execute it. Finding those lines is the meta-game.

Where it falls short is the open-flow feeling. The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 had levels that flowed continuously. You could chain tricks across the entire map. Skateboard Trick's parks are smaller and more discrete. You complete a line in one section and have to set up again in another. The flow doesn't carry the way the genre's best entries do.

Three-and-a-half stars. Solid 2D-skater tribute with decent trick system. Worth a few hours for the trick-chase. Limited compared to the 3D originals it's referencing.
