Editor review
Marathon running as a video-game subject is even more niche than other endurance sports. The format requires patience and pace-management more than reflex skill, which produces a play experience few players will find compelling but which a small audience will appreciate. Marathon Runner serves that audience.
The pace-vs-recovery tradeoff is the games central system. Hard pace consumes energy quickly; conservative pace preserves energy for the late race. Real marathon racing rewards even pacing more than fast-then-slow strategies; Marathon Runner models this correctly.
The hydration and stride-form mechanics add light texture. Hydration breaks must be timed; stride-form rhythm taps prevent technique-decay. The three course profiles add some variety. Adequate for the small audience who finds endurance simulation compelling; not for impatient players.
